Trendy herringbone tiling in the shower with gold fittings..
So with this project it all started when our client noticed a leak showing on the ceiling  in their kitchen downstairs.
Prior to our work they had a wet-room which, unfortunately  failed, rotting the timber sub floor below.

So our best solution was to remove the wet-room and fit a low profile stone shower tray.
During the the bathroom installation we fitted a niche into the wall.

At this time it was during lock-down and we've happy for us to work, provided we follow the governments distancing guidelines, of which we did.

Herringbone wall tiling
With regards to the herringbone tiling, it takes at least twice as long tiling as it would fitting the tiles in brick-bond. Setting out is very important. I've found the best way to set out herringbone tiling is as follows..
  1. Ensure walls are level and plumb where possible.
  2. The centre line isn't the edge of the tile it is where the diagonals intersect.
  3. With a set on the corner of a tile mark a 45' line.
  4. Now measure from the line to the other corner.
  5. Half this size and now offset the centre line by this amount.
  6. Now measure the height and half it.
  7. Next set  out some tiles to equal the above measurement.
  8. Then work out where the last tile goes and transfer this size of the horizontal centre line and fix a batten level along this line.
  9. Now we are ready to lay the tiles, get a lazer line along our new centre line and fit all the full tiles.
  10. once the first row is laid, it is vital you check in-between with a square.
Every few rows keep checking that is is square like below;
setting out herringbone tiles
My client opted for mosaic hexagon tiles to fill the gap where the leaking wet-room started and I think it works well We also repainted to bathroom, tiled the bath panel and bath splashbacks. We also done some plastering and painting in another room as part of the project. Once completed we removed all floor protection, hoovered and cleaned up and made our working area spotless. We then got our licensed waste disposal team in to dispose of all building waste and materials. Another extremely happy customer :)

So first things first, we laid carpet protector up the stairs and floor protection in the hallways and moved any furniture we required. Next we removed all sanitary-ware, wall tires and floor coverings. On this project there was an airing cupboard about where the thermostatic mixer is, We removed this to allow more space on the end of the bath. We made adjustments to the shower mixer feeds and waste pipe. We also rerouted the towel rail to its new position, at the end of the bath. Next we skimmed the ceiling and fitted new IP 65 rated chrome spotlights, along with converting the pull-cord type switch to a switch in the hallway. We then fitted the new bath, made good and primed all the walls. We always fill the bath up with water then tile, if you don't do this sometimes a gap will occur between tiles and bath. We also future proved the bath by fitting a removable panel which consisted of two tiles silicone sealed with matching silicone to the grout for an invisible flawless finish. The tiles we used the this project where rectified, meaning that they are 100 percent straight and true. (some cheaper tiles are bowed and not straight and will create lip age). After tiling and grouting was complete with fitted the new shower mixer, shower enclosure and all sanity-ware. Next we fitted the LVT vynal click flooring. We always recommend this as its a great product to use. Its waterproof and much more safer than tiles, if you have children or elderly people in your household I'd highly recommend it over tiles. There are a huge online selection and most suppliers offer free samples to allow you to make the right decision on the one you like. The best brand in Quickstep. Once the flooring is laid, we then make sure everything is clean and looking fresh, We then applied silicone to all leading edges in a matching silicone to the grout. And wolarr, the bathroom project is compete:) Now to take up our floor protection, re-arrange any furniture we may have moved and clean up in such a way so that your property is cleaner than when we started. We use a licensed waste carrier we use on all of our jobs (Clearoff), that will remove all the building waste and again, leave the area spick and span.
